Courtesy of Walmart, DDOT delivered a late Christmas gift and a not so happy New Year surprise to FGC members when it began installing No Parking signs on Peabody Street, between Georgia Avenue and Ninth, in the afternoon on New Year’s Eve. During one of the meetings held with DDOT a couple of months ago, neighborhood residents were told that letters containing information about RPPs (Residential Parking Permits) would be mailed to us prior to the installation of the signs. To my knowledge the only notice FGC residents received from DDOT was the wake-up call when the truck rolled up and starting erecting the signs on Tuesday.
After word circulated on the FGC grapevine, some co-op members made a hasty trip to the 4th District to get temporary parking stickers. Residents with vehicles registered in the District may obtain temporary RPPs from the precinct. Permanent stickers must be obtained from DMV. An RPP allows a DC registered vehicle to be parked without restriction in the permit area of the residential address. Visitor’s Parking Permits for guests of permanent residents may also be obtained from the precinct. Applicants for visitor parking permits must provide the name and address of the visitor using the permit, as well as the tag number where the visitor’s vehicle is registered.
Some other Tidbits:
*** Replacement of the porch carpeting during the summer, and canopies in November, significantly improved the look of FGC.
*** The neighborhood Listservs have been reporting numerous and increasing crimes in our area, especially car break-ins and robberies. In one incident, a young lady walking to her car in Shepherd Park was robbed of her backpack and cell phone. Many of the crimes committed locally do not make TV newscast. Predators are every where. Be vigilant where ever you are — day and night.
*** A recent incident prompts this reminder to FGC Members. Article 17 of the Occupancy Agreement requires that management have a key to all locks on your unit door. This issue is extremely important. If there is an emergency inside the unit — which could occur whether the member is at home or not — management requires access to the unit. Noncompliance is in violation of the Occupancy Agreement.
